Sand Blending Wedding Ceremony

The blending of sands in the wedding ceremony symbolises the union taking place.

The single containers of sands symbolise the individuals before their marriage. The main container represents their union as husband and wife.

Couples, with children from former marriages, will include the children in the wedding ceremony through a blending of sand ceremony to symbolise union of both families.

Different coloured sand can be used by each member of the family involved in the wedding ceremony. Or only two different coloured sand is used - one representing members of each family.

Want to include your young baby in the wedding ceremony? Have one of the grandparents pour the sand on the child's behalf, symbolising not only this child, but any future children the bride and groom may have.

For visual effect, each person might pour only some of the sand at a time, until all sand is used up.

Do you need a Wedding Ring?

I guess we’ve all seen the movie where the best man drops the wedding ring and everyone madly scrambles round the floor, hoping that the wedding ring hasn’t fallen through some crack never to be found again.

And the other scenario where the best man dips slowly into his right pocket, then more quickly into his left pocket, and then with horror on his face into his inside pocket, then pats himself down over every possible pocket while it dawns on him …. He’s forgotten the ring. Catastrophe! How can the wedding proceed without a ring?

If the wedding is being held at a house, someone may race into the bathroom to rip off the shower curtain off the rod, and grab one of the shower curtain rings. Day saved. The wedding can proceed. The ring may not be an elegant substitute, but it is a ring. In another situation – as in ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ – someone within the congregation may save the day with their ring.

Yet, the fact is, a legal marriage is not dependent on the wedding ring. You can eliminate it altogether from your wedding ceremony and you would still be married. It’s only a ritual, and not part of the binding contract of a marriage ceremony.

If you don’t normally wear jewellery, or if you’re a tradesman for whom it would be dangerous to wear a ring at work, do you really need that wedding ring to make you feel married?

Destination Wedding Honeymoon

Thinking of combining your wedding with your Honeymoon in a faraway place away from your family and friends?

More and more couples are doing it. In some cases they make the decision because the partnership is of such long standing that a wedding ceremony among friends, who already regard them as a married couple, seems a little uncomfortable. In other cases the marriage may be a cause of consternation among some members of the family. In the end it just seems less complex to face the family after performing the deed.

There is often the financial consideration where families may be too large for the couple’s financial resources and it may seem more practicable to do away with the huge reception. And lastly, the couple may be genuinely enthralled to make their new beginning as husband and wife in the most exotic locale they can think of.

The plan will then be to have at the wedding any children the couple may have, and very close relatives and friends only.

In discussing the matter of travel and accommodation, ask your travel agent if there are any group discounts, and pass this information on to your guests. It may or may not make a difference to whether they can afford to join you or not. Choose your accommodation with a view to what will suit your guests as well as yourself, unless your heart is set on a particular resort and you prefer to book your guests in a resort close by.

Lastly, when deciding on a destination wedding honeymoon, is the matter of having your honeymoon become a family and friends reunion. Is being surrounded with all these people for the rest of your honeymoon your idea of a perfect honeymoon? If it is, great! If it’s not, decide how you’re going to detach yourself from your wedding guests after the reception so that they can go their way, while you go yours.

Ideally, arrive at your destination a day or two before the rest of your guests. This will give you an opportunity to find out how and where your ceremony will take place, and how your reception is to be set up. Meet up with all the people who are part of the planning process and make sure you are happy with everything, or that everything is according to the way you expect it to be.

If you have a friend or a family member living at the destination you’ve decided on for your wedding/honeymoon location, ask them to direct you to the right service provider. Better still, ask them to contact the providers themselves and ask them for quotes. It is not unusual that quotes for locals could be substantially lower than for tourists.

Similarly, if any friends or acquaintances, or even friends of friends, have celebrated their wedding in that location, ask for their input. In particular, check to make sure that your wedding ceremony ends up being a legal one.

As is the case of a normal wedding, destination wedding/honeymoon can be very expensive or less expensive. If money is in short supply, you will find it less costly if you don’t get married on a Saturday, since in most countries this the favourite day for weddings.

Travelling off season will also cut your cost in terms of travelling costs, as well as accommodation costs. You need to weigh that against what the weather will be like in off-season, and what is offered in season which is not being offered in off season. If you intend to do most of your wedding shopping at your wedding/honeymoon destination refrain from going to bridal stores which are inevitably dearer than the normal stores.

Surprise Wedding - Should You or Shouldn't You?

Partners who have been together for many years, constantly being urged by their relatives and friends to get married, may choose to hold a wedding ceremony when their friends least expect it. Some of these surprise weddings include:

1. On Christmas day after everyone has opened their gifts but before they sit down to dinner. This is especially a good surprise when relatives are spread all over the countryside and this is one day when they will all be in the one place.

2. New Year's Eve or New Year's Day are two other days being used for unexpected wedding ceremony as it symbolises a new beginning.

3. Another celebratory day which can be turned into a wedding day is a birthday party for either one or the other partner. You wait until the party has been going for a few hours and guests have begun to relax, and then spring the surprise.

4. If you can’t wait for any special occasion, but your family and friends are party-types invite them to a family barbeque for no particular reason at all.

5. Make sure the wedding will be a pleasant surprise and not a shock or even a disappointment to those of your relatives or friends who have never taken to your partner. Perhaps a few hints beforehand about your thinking about getting married might warm them to the idea so that the surprise is not all that unexpected.

6. On the other hand, if your closest family members have been looking forward to your wedding, consider whether they may be disappointed at having missed out on the wedding planning.

7. Give some indication that this is going to be a special day so that your guests won't be embarrassed by the way they've dressed.

8. If your guests are the kind that don't believe in watches, either be prepared to wait till every one of your guests arrives, or give the slow-coaches a reason for arriving on time – I need help with something and you are the only person whom I can rely upon etc. etc…….

9. Once you are ready for the wedding ceremony, slip out of the room to get dressed, while appointing someone to announce you with fanfare. He or she doesn’t have to spell out what’s going to happen next; simply calling everyone’s attention to something about to happen. If the wedding march music follows this announcement most guests will get the idea.

10 Tips for the Self-Employed Celebrant

Like any other self-employed person, the celebrant, to be a successful business person, must have not only the qualities that make her a good officiant, but also characteristics that will make her a successful business person. Successful business people are noted for:

1. Initiative

Business people who succeed take personal responsibility for what happens. Action is the key. Whatever you plan to do, you do it in a timely fashion. Any promises you make to yourself or to your clients are kept because you enjoy the challenge of getting things done. You know the importance of promoting yourself as a business person and are active in doing just that.

2. Persistence

No one has ever succeeded without persistence. By focusing on exactly what you want to achieve as a celebrant you will be able to overcome the inevitable challenges that will come your way. You have the self-confidence in not only being ready to undertake a task, but to keep at it until it’s finished.

3. Planning

Essential requirement is that you know exactly the outcome you want in planning every step of the way. This includes making a detailed list of your immediate and long-term goals, and tackling them in an orderly fashion. Knowing where you want to go, and putting in place realistic initiatives which will take you there, is a necessary requirement.

4. Flexibility

Change is inevitable in every aspect of life. It is inevitable in your business. Accept it and use it to your advantage. While having a plan for your business so that you know where you’re going and how you’re going to get there, continue to watch what’s happening around you, and revise your own methods and ideas so that you don’t get left behind.

5. Clear, creative and analytical thinking

You need to be an ideas person, aware of trends and fashions, working towards being the first, rather than the last to adopt new ways of celebrating various ceremonies. While as an officiant you are a people person, as a business person you need to be logical and rational, and perhaps even a bit pragmatic. Feelings and sentimental thinking need to take second place to running your business as a financial success.

6. Communication skills

Celebrancy requires the skill of getting along with people. You need to enjoy working with your clients, networking with people in your industry, gaining their goodwill and support. Competence in human relations, including the ability to get along with others is imperative. Creating relationships with all the people you come in contact includes the ability to mix easily with people, be a person easy to get to know, and be a real asset in social situations. Ability to talk easily, and enjoying talking, is a real asset.

7. Able to describe the services you provide

Unlike tangible goods which customers can see, and hold and touch, your services are very much in the perception of the client. It is you who must be able to communicate the benefits and advantages of your services to the client. No matter how good, or even how much better you are than other celebrants, in order to sell your services to a client you must need to communicate this fact to her.

In effect, you are the product you’re selling. You must be able to communicate your differences from other officiants. Your enthusiasm and passion for what you’re doing. The experience and the training which makes you the professional you are. The qualities that make you and your services unique.

6. Confident

Since you are the product you’re selling, you need to be confident by knowing what you are about. You can only convince others by knowing and believing in your professionalism and your ability to provide quality service.

7. Reliable

Your clients, like everyone else, have experienced the frustration of calls that are never returned, the promised information that never arrives, the waste of time waiting for service people who might arrive today or tomorrow, or hopefully by the end of the week. As a successful business person, you never promise what you can’t deliver and you always try to deliver more than you promise.

8. Self-motivation

You need to believe in what you’re doing, in the way you’re doing it, and in your ability to achieve what you’ve set out to achieve. As a self-employed person it is not enough for you to merely have goals which you want to achieve. You must be able to motivate yourself to do whatever it takes to actively promote these goals. Planning is not enough. You need to be committed to what you’ve set out to do.

9. Business like

You might love dealing with people, but you must never lose sight of the fact that you’re running a business and not a charitable institution. Be financially responsible by charging fees that repay the time and money that you put into running your celebrancy business.

Initially, almost all people starting a new business are just a little embarrassed about asking for their fee, and worrying about the fee being too high. Unless you get over it very quickly, you won’t be running a business for too long.

10. Robust health

Look after your health. Celebrancy is about being on time and on the ball. Since stresses are inevitable, make sure you don’t succumb by taking care of yourself physically, mentally and emotionally. Make some rules about how you want to run your business and what time off you would like to have. Some celebrants choose not to perform ceremonies on public or religious holidays because they prefer to spend that time with their family and friends. Decide on your priorities so that you won’t feel that you are wholly controlled by your business.

Commitment of Vows Ceremony Sample

Love is the greatest thing that we can give to one another...for love is a wondrous gift; no other can take its place, but it can take the place of all the rest. When two people entrust one another with their innermost feelings, their hearts, their lives, the bond between them strengthens and surrounds them until each becomes a part of the other. This closeness cannot be measured by time, words or circumstance. It is a wholeness of the soul, a silence, and the highest form of intimacy.

We are gathered here today, because love gathers us and especially because love has found Leanne and Robert, and woven them together, into the great web of life. We are gathered to remember and rejoice, to recount with one another, that it is love, always love, that leads us to our true destination and to celebrate that Lorraine and Robert have finally arrived.

This is the Partners in Life union of Leanne and Robert. We are here to listen, with love in our hearts, and to share with them, their celebration of love.

FRIEND
To love is to remember and keep alive forever all those unique qualities that drew you to one another in the beginning.... Those first halting phrases...the thrill of discovery.... That wonderful feeling of oneness when your eyes met.

To love is to constantly search for new ways to bring each other to happiness, to make the most of every moment you share together, and marvel at how your feelings for one another keep rising to new dimensions.

To love is to create an oasis of tranquility for one another and a quiet place, apart from others, where you need not pretend...where you can be yourselves.... And know within your hearts, you will be accepted by one another.

To love is to greet each day with anticipation...Always eager for another opportunity to share new adventures...And gather up new memories TOGETHER!

To love is to follow the rainbow through the rain, to be able to laugh at yourselves and be willing to say...."I was wrong, I'm sorry"...To forgive, and more importantly, to FORGET, and to always believe and trust in one another.

To love is to watch with wonder all the miracles of creation, to find beauty in all the simple things of life, and to find, within ourselves, a deeper appreciation and a new awareness of how wonderful it is to be alive...To be happy...To be…TOGETHER.

To love is to come together from the pathways of our past and then move forward...Hand in hand, along the uncharted roads of our future, ready to risk, to dream, and to dare.... And always believe that all things are possible with faith and love.

ROBERT'S VOWS
Today I give you my hand so that you will never be alone. I give you my laughter so that your happiness may always be my happiness. I give you my friendship to support and encourage you. I give you my heart for it belongs to you.

LEANNE'S VOWS
I promise to give you the best of myself and to ask of you no more than you can give. I promise to respect you as your own person and to realize that your interests, desires and needs are no less important than my own. I promise to share with you my time and my attention
and to bring joy, strength and imagination to our relationship.
